“Adventurers in Art And dutch design” d.&a Expo “Open Up” is about traveling. Our drive to explore and wanderlust in general. Traveling is figuratively also growing, learn-ing to be open to the new and unknown. It also encourages a kind of openness and usually respect and paying attention to the customs of a particular country. This kind of openness is like the design process of making art, allowing you to make unique connections and form new ideas. And finally, the imaginary journey. Imagine worlds in which you travel to fantasy lands, regions and peoples that only exist in the mind of the artist. The Open Up exhibitors love to tell their stories, fantasies and maybe it will inspire you to create your own journey?A grand tour about the art of getting lost and going on an adven-ture.

Renneke van der Linden
At the Academy it was not obvious to opt for figurative. “I was sometimes laughed at about it. People thought the paintings were too literal, almost primitive. But I choose it. I need to have a grip on what I do and I want to be understood. I like it when people experience it as a celebration of recognition.”
Janine Vos de Mooij
Since 1996 I have been making luxury storage boxes for individuals and companies for example for photos, prints or jewelry. The boxes are made of cardboard, covered with paper, linen and/ or artificial suede. I also like to recycle paper such as maps. For each order, a shape and covering is chosen, making all boxes.
Josja Schepman
Josja has made 3 vases especially for the “Open up” exhibition, inspired by the ancient Tulip vase, the origin of which probably lies in the Netherlands (Delft). Her blown glass vases and her entire oeuvre of glass are daring, colorful and playful. In short, a professional in the field of glass art.
The students of Sintlucas (Leather department) have been commissioned to design a compact travel bag on the occasion of Interrail's 50th anniversary. The Interrail Pass is a train ticket that allows you to travel on almost all trains in Europe. With it, you get access to 40 railway and ferry companies in 33 countries. Students have taken the work of a European artist as a starting point for the design.

If things can’t be done the way they should, then they should be done the way they can. Apparent failures may be the source of new discoveries.
I am fascinated by all kinds of living spaces, both in reality and coming from my fantasy. Therefore, I call my artworks ‘Habitats.’
