Anneke Bruin
Whether Anneke is walking through the forest, visiting a Hindu temple in India or watching the film Compostella about people who search for meaning; everything she does is part of the creative process of designing and making jewelry. Her jewelry is a reflection of Anneke's life and personality, characterized by purity and depth. Just as she always searches for what is essential in life, she wants to expose the essence of the material she works with. As if she looks under the shell and brings out the core.

Relation to the Expo
For the exhibition ‘Big Bold Botanics’, I drew inspiration from the lavish parrot tulip. It's a beautiful example of bold botanical beauty.
About my work
Soft and hard, raw and refined. It is her fascination with apparent contradictions with which she makes connections. Opposites reveal each other; for can there be light without darkness? And as she herself exudes: vulnerable and powerful at the same time, intuitive and intelligent. She looks frail, but her hands are those of a craftswoman: powerful.
For example, in her jewelry designs she uses extremely fragile sea urchins as the basis for her work, but with her knowledge of craft techniques she knows how to process them so that they are strong enough for use. Her experience, training and thorough knowledge give her the opportunity to experiment with new combinations of materials, shapes and techniques. She composes, plays and experiments, casts and shapes, saws, forges and solders, creating beautiful jewelry that has its own authentic identity. Jewelry that emphasizes and enhances the personal beauty of the wearer.
About me
Anneke Bruin went to the Maastricht Art Academy and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. She interned with a traditional bronze caster in Cameroon, travels extensively through Asia and took lessons with various artists in India and Nepal. She regularly exhibits in museums, galleries, art galleries and at fairs.
